The formal name that is found in medical books is lateral epicondylitis which in popular language represents the inflammation of the outside elbow bone. Many doctors believe that this condition has much more to do with middle age than with tennis playing or overuse of the elbow. So, it seems, there are no specific pieces of evidence to support that tennis is the real cause of this problem. Yet, the fact that it is pretty common among tennis players has brought the name and the reputation.

If you are not sure as to whether you may have this condition, the symptoms to be identified are as follows. First of all, tennis elbow causes pain in the outer part of the elbow and the appearance of a tender point in the upper part of the elbow bone. Moreover, when one turns the wrist or lifts an object the pain can extend not only to the elbow but to the wrist joint too. Last but not least, another often noticed manifestation is the elbow and wrist stiffness after lack of movement over the night.

If you need to be diagnosed, then going to the doctor would be a smart thing. The most common tests for the identification of tennis elbow is radiography and MRI. Apparently, surgery does not fix the problem as the radiographies are not very evidence-wise as to stating whether surgery is definitely needed and likely to be successful. However treatments do exist and they have brought improvement in the case of many tennis elbow patients. Among the many options for treatment to be resorted to we can mention the use of anti-inflammatory drugs, the application of heat or ice and the wearing of a special elbow strap to make sure that strain on the elbow will be reduced.

The strap would most likely work as a prevention method as by wearing it you would avoid your elbow receiving even more damage than it has already suffered. Acupuncture, the use of splints for immobilizing the forearm and elbow, cortisone shots or ultrasound treatments represent only a few other medical approaches to the tennis elbow condition.

Tennis Shoes

Tennis shoes represent a piece of equipment that many people tend to ignore without realizing that most of the time the shoes are the ones that make quite a big difference both during training and in competitions. The player’s feet run the risk of becoming highly tired and losing responsiveness to the commands of the brain and that can turn out quite bad when as a competitor you need to rely on your resistance to win a game or match. As it may obviously be seen in televised tennis games, tennis players have to run, move a lot sideways and back and forth putting a great amount of pressure on their feet. The pressure placed on the feet can be greatly reduced with the help of a high quality pair of shoes.

Tennis shoes manufacturers are now competing for market ground throughout the entire world trying to come up with breakthrough ideas as to how to improve the shoes recommended for this sport. Every new pair that is ready to hit the markets has already gone through play-tests that test the shoe behavior and resistance as compared to other brands or older designs. Adidas, Nike, Lotto, Prince – these are but a few of the many manufacturers that try to take the lead in terms of tennis shoes and their appeal to buyers.

Generally speaking there are some features that tennis shoes have to include in order to make a good choice. Comfort represents the main criterion to identify the right shoes. A cushion system can do wonders offering heel strike and helping the player sprint better. Even though they may seem a little stiff when out of the box, it is highly important to analyze their behavior after wearing them for just a little bit of time. The best comfort shoes are those that don't lose the cushion system effects in time and do not lose the property easily.

Traction features and durability make the two other reasons why you should try tennis shoes rather than casual sports wear. Players train a lot and participate in quite a lot of matches, that is why they need the sole of the shoes to be as resistant to wear as possible. Moreover, their movement on the court remains equally important, they should not slip and cause balance issues. That is why the type of pattern that offers traction is also very important for the choice of a reliable pair.

Tennis Apparel

The picture we all have in mind about tennis apparel consists of white clothing with matching polo shirts, shorts or skirts and special tennis shoes. Clothes become important particularly when you go to a real court and you feel like you need to get into the atmosphere.

Tennis clothes can be bought from sporting goods retailers or can be ordered over the Internet from various online dealers. It is important that you know what size you wear both in tops and trousers or skirts depending on whether you are a man or a woman player. Like any apparel item in general, sizes are very common beginning with small going up to XXL, so that basically anyone can find the right outfit.

Tennis clothes follow gender categories distinctly. For men, the attire consists of a tennis or polo shirt, shorts, tennis shoes and possibly a hat, visor or a head band. The standard polo shirt is t-shaped with collar and buttons. Some models also have a pocket at the chest and they are usually made of cotton. Outside the tennis court, polo shirts make a great choice as casual clothes and many people wear them as such. It is just that polo shirts look great and they have a long history of being considered informal business attire.

Women tennis clothes include long or short-sleeved shirts, a short skirt with underskirt, pants or shirts, shoes and the head apparel. The short skirt looks very nice on women tennis players which is why it is pretty unusual to see them wearing shorts. For both genders the tennis clothes look incredibly attractive as it is in fact normal for a sport considered royal, which is also the reason why white remains the favorite color of tennis players.

As far as the price is concerned, tennis clothes come in a pretty wide range of materials and brands. Cotton is the common fabric for tennis clothes, but most manufacturers today also rely on other materials like polyester, for example. Furthermore, brand names will always be more costly. The better known the manufacturer, the more expensive the tennis clothes. But a higher price will always reflect the high quality of the products themselves.

Tennis Rackets

Have you ever wondered about who buys extravagant sports items? Who is eager to invest so much into technologies and manufacturing of things that are far from basic, for example? Some people believe tennis rackets should not be extravagant in any respect just as much as other sport equipment should not be fanciful either. So they would go for cheaper equipment items that reflect their basic game necessity in fact.

However, it has been proved that the better the technologies the better it is for the human body to perform. To the same degree, a buyer who knows more, will also be a smart shopper. Tennis rackets can be bought without having any clue as to why they are so different from each other. Even if they do not look different, you will notice that prices vary quite a lot. Of course, the brands with the highest reputation will also score high in terms of price; yet even the ones that are not so well known would offer clients products that should be very different if we were to judge in terms of price distinctions.

As it is easily noticeable tennis rackets are improved each year. Their manufacturers bring out new lines periodically if not every season. The diversity of models allows for almost any buyer to find a suitable tennis racket without breaking the bank. That is why tennis has probably become more popular than it used to be. The very basic and cheap models are OK for a small budget but if one can spare more for a hobby, then, more elaborate tennis rackets models become appealing. The reliability is surely superior to former models and the performance will not disappoint the user.

The physical strength of the user as well as the tennis knowledge are two important issues covered by manufacturers when planning the design of the tennis rackets. Furthermore, customization services cover the more special needs and demands of amateur and professional players. Technologies contribute to the evolution of tennis rackets and their manufacturers stress out the importance of features like resistance, flexibility and direction control that players appreciate more every day. Sometimes the improvements performed on certain models resulted from customer suggestions. Yet, needless to say that the investment in manufacturing processes increased proportionately with the requirements. The more demanding sports players are, the higher the prices and the better the performance.

Tennis Rules

Neither aggressive moves nor physical contact have anything to do with tennis playing. It is widely loved by both men and women to the same extent and therefore televisions broadcast it extensively all over the world. The game as such is not very difficult and tennis rules are very easy to understand.

To begin with, according to basic tennis lessons, it must be played in a twos-sided court with each player choosing a side. Players also bear different names depending on the action that they take at certain points. The one who serves the ball is called a server while the other is called the receiver. Tennis rules apply for single players or pairs/doubles. However, it is a lot easier to follow the scores, hits and strategies for a one-to-one game than for doubles. When the server hits the ball he/she is required to remain behind the baseline on the deuce court. The deuce court is also needed for even points as this is where they are all played while odd points are played in the advantage court.

After the server hits the ball it is important for the receiver to hit the ball and return it to the server’s half of the court. A move is declared correct and valid when it bounces in the service box; but if the receiver hits the ball without letting it bounce first, then he loses points. Very similarly, if the server does not make the ball bounce in the service box of his opponent, the situation is known as fault and the serve needs repetition.

According to tennis rules, one won point is given 15 point equivalents that is why the score may make you thin of a clock. Zero in tennis means love, two points make 30 and three points equal 45 or the nowadays 40. The game is finished – either lost or won by one of the players – when the clock gets to zero again, that is love. In case the score reaches 40 – 40, a score known in tennis rules as deuce, the winner needs score twice so as to win the game.

Regarding winning, tennis rules state that winners of the set are those who win 6 games by two. Moreover, the match winner is the one who wins both sets; if this is not the case, then they have to play six sets that will most likely be decisive. For a 6-6 final score a tie-breaker is played.

All in all, tennis rules prove less complex than they seem. However they could seem pretty numerous. One could say that the more the rules, the more intricate to understand the game, but actually tennis rules are needed simply to avoid confusions and unpredictably unclear situations.

Tennis Lessons

Are tennis lessons really needed? Well, tennis looks like an easy sport to practice but it surely depends on strategy and techniques. When you have no clue about tennis, then even holding the racket and hitting the ball look like a challenge. The ball seems to have a direction all of its own when they try to hit it. And the court looks incredibly big the first time they are on it. These are the mere impressions of a beginner who does not know anything about moves, hits and strategies. He or she would probably opt for tennis lessons before venturing to play on a real court.

Nowadays tennis lessons are advertised in all kinds of media. So it is pretty difficult not to find an instructor ready to help you in exchange for some sort of a charge. Some instructors prefer to offer tennis lessons to complete beginners although they know it's no easy task given the higher degree of responsibility they assume. In a way, it very much resembles that of a primary school teacher's who has to help young children develop reading and writing skills. It is commonly agreed by all teachers and instructors that these very basic skills cannot miss or be wrongly acquired if effort and determination are put into the learning process. The same thing goes with tennis and tennis lessons.

On the other hand, there are instructors who advertise tennis lessons meant to improve the skills that players have already acquired. They would most likely focus on ground strokes, overheads, volleys, serves, spinning techniques, offense and defense tactics and various strategies of the overall game.

Instructors are often former professional players most of the time, who have a wide baggage of knowledge that allows them to teach others successfully. Most are coaches within certain sport clubs and are experienced in working with both children and adults for all difficulty levels. Even though you are looking for cheaper tennis lessons, a good tip would be to always choose a trainer or instructor that has been certified by the professional tennis association in order to receive high quality and standard training. Most likely, those that who lack such certification would offer cheaper tennis lessons but the quality of the services could be often doubtful.

How To Tennis For Beginners

Welcome to How To Tennis For Beginners.
